Our club uses a custom "Elo" rating system to track each player’s skill level and progress over time, much like how chess ratings work. Club members begin with a baseline rating of 1000. Every time you play a match, your rating adjusts based on the outcome and the difference in rating between you and your opponent. For instance, beating players ranked higher than you earns you more points, while losing to players of lower rank results in a larger drop. Whereas if you lose to a player with a higher rating or beat a player of lower rank it won't affect your score near as much. This system helps create fair matchups, encourages improvement, and gives you a clear way to see how your game is advancing.
We track members' performance across multiple pool games, giving a rating for each game type. From one's individual game ratings, a composite club rating is formed based on the weighted average of game ratings. The weighting is derived from the amount of matches on record for a particular game. For instance, if you have 60 games of Eight Ball, and 40 Games of Nine Ball on record, Eight ball will be weighted 60% and Nine Ball 40% when averaging for your composite rating.
Games that are currently tracked include: Seven Ball, Eight Ball, Nine Ball, Ten Ball, Fifteen Ball, 14.1 Continuous, Cut-Throat, and Irish Pool.
For games played with more than two players (2v2 games or cut-throat), rating difference is calculated based on the average of you or your team, and the average of your opponents'.
